Geography Awareness Week

Geography Awareness Week, November 15 to 19, 2021

Did you know that Geography Awareness Week and the NWT Centre for Geomatics were both established in 1987?

Geography Awareness Week was first established by National Geographic and was recognized by a presidential proclamation in the United States in 1987.  It was established to raise the profile of geography education.  Similarly, GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Day has been celebrated on the Wednesday of Geography Awareness week since 1999, recognizing the importance of GIS technology and its contributions to a variety of real-world applications.

The NWT Centre for Geomatics invites you to celebrate Geography Awareness Week through a variety of games, trivia and artistic activities for your chance to win one of 10 buffs.  Simply scan or submit your responses to the activities below including your name and address at geonwt@gov.nt.ca by November 19th to be entered in a draw for a prize.  Please note that only Canadian entries are eligible as prizes will only be shipped to Canadian provinces and territories.
